The “Positivus” festival will also offer a wide film program

Cinema tent “Kino Bize” This year’s “Positivus” festival will also give you the opportunity to take refuge in the world of cinema with a selection of bright, musical and crazy summer films. In eight film screenings on July 15 and 16 in Lucavsala, the latest domestic cinema, current foreign films, and cult classics will be shown. Screenings will be complemented by the visits of local filmmakers and conversations with the audience.

“The unifying motif of the film program is personal freedom accompanied by intoxicating music and even more intoxicating parties – regardless of whether the films take place in the disco era of the 70s or to the accompaniment of electronic beats today. The film program was made in cooperation with the US Embassy in Latvia. The films will be shown in the original language with subtitles in Latvian and/or English,” informs the “Positivus Festival” team.

The program on Friday, July 15 will be opened by a selection of the newest and best films by students of the Latvian Academy of Culture.

Followed by the British film “Rave” (2019), which tells the story of the 90s in Scotland, where electronic music is forbidden by law, but this does not stop freedom-hungry friends Spanner and Jono from going to a secret party. The theme of transgressors will be further carried by Spike Lee’s classic “Do The Right Thing” (1989) about the hottest day in Brooklyn and the tantrums caused by the unbearable heat, while at the end of the restless program – “Restless Minds” (2022) by the Abel brothers, where the bohemian lifestyle of the two artists has merged the boundaries between normality and madness.

Saturday’s program will begin with the documentary “Tikmēr Lucavsala” (2022). Director Elza Gauja has humorously and easily captured the fabulous environment of the small gardens of Lucavsala, near which the “Positivus” festival will also take place this year. Immediately after – the European Film Academy and for the Oscars the award-winning comedy-drama Vēl pa mēriņam (2020) about four high school teachers who start coming to work every day under the influence of alcohol for research purposes, soon losing control of the intoxicating experiment. In the evening, Marta Elina Martinson’s comedy “Tizlenes” (2021), whose author received the national cinema award “Lielais Kristaps” for the best debut of the year, will be shown in the evening, along with the visit of the filmmakers. John Travolta in a white suit on the disco dance floor in the musical “Saturday Night Fever” (1977) will conclude the program inspired by spieguli and humor.

It should be reminded that the “Positivus” festival will take place this summer on the 15th at a new venue – in Riga, Lucavsala.
