The Port of Montreal could be paralyzed

The Port of Montreal could be paralyzed once more from Monday due to a new four-day strike by longshoremen.

According to an internal note obtained by Le Journal, the union of 1125 longshoremen sent 72 hours notice of strike to the Association of Maritime Employers (AEM) on Friday.

The pressure tactics include the “complete” cessation of work throughout the Port’s territory, including the Contrecoeur terminal, from Monday July 27 at 7 am to Friday July 31 at 6:59 am, said the note.

This four-day walkout was accompanied by an order to suspend the participation of union members in the employer’s postings, as well as any training activity.

Workers at local CUPE 375, whose role is to load and unload ships, voted 99.5% in favor of the strike in December 2018.
