The planet Venus was explored earlier than Mars, when did NASA land?

Jakarta

Venus is the closest planet to Earth. It is said in the official NASA website, the planet is often called Earth’s twin because of its similar size and density.

Even so, Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. Compared to Mars, Venus is actually the planet that was first explored by spacecraft.

Quoting from the Space page, NASA’s first successful landing to Mars was on July 14, 1965. So, what was the history of the first landing on the planet Venus?

History of NASA’s Landings on the Planet Venus

Venus was the first planet to be explored by a spacecraft. NASA’s Mariner 2 aircraft successfully headed there and scanned the cloud-covered celestial body on December 14, 1962.

Mentioned on the NASA website, since then a number of spacecraft from the United States and other space agencies have participated in exploring it. NASA’s Magellan is no exception, which maps the planet’s surface using radar.

To date, the most successful spacecraft to land on the surface of Venus have been Soviet ones. Unfortunately, they are not able to last long due to the extreme heat and pressure that can destroy objects.

One of the US spacecraft, which is also one of NASA’s Pioneer Venus Multiprobes, in 1978 was able to survive about an hour after hitting the surface of Venus.

Recent landing missions to the planet Venus include ESA’s Venus Express, which orbits from 2006 to 2016. Then there is Japan’s Akatsuki Venus Climate Orbiter, which has been in orbit since 2016.

Next, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe spacecraft flew past it several times. On February 9, 2022, NASA announced that it had captured the first visible image of light from the surface of Venus, during its February 2021 pass.

In June 2021, the mission to Venus announced again. However, this time it was not only done by NASA. One of the landing missions to the planet Venus was led by ESA (European Space Agency), while the other two were run by NASA.
