A kind of park is to be built around the fountain on the square in front of Lincoln Center in New York this summer.

Artificial turf will be laid between the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet and the performance hall of the New York Philharmonic, the venue announced on Tuesday (local time).
There should always be open-air events – but also books to borrow as well as snacks and drinks every day between May and September. “I wanted to create a place where you can lie on a grass hill and read a book all afternoon,” said artist Mimi Lien, who created the installation for the Lincoln Center. “I hope that the hilly grass surface feels like an embrace and an extension at the same time, and that it rethinks this place as a place of social infrastructure.”
Due to the corona pandemic, the opera and the performance halls of the ballet ensemble and the Philharmonic are currently closed; no opening is planned before the end of the year. At least smaller events can now take place outside.
