The pilot turns off the engine wrongly, the plane crashes and the taxi splits into two

Taipei

The plane crash happened again, this time in Taiwan. This plane crashed because its engine failed.

Reported from Star Dailyflight 235 of the airline TransAsia take off from Songhsan Airport in Taiwan. This flight should take one hour and arrive at Kinmen Airport, mainland China.

However, the flight which flew at 11.00 local time had an accident. Just minutes after takeoff one of the ATR 72 aircraft’s two turboprop engines suffered a mechanical failure.

The normal procedure for this situation is to disable the problem engine and use the other engine to make an emergency landing at the origin airport.

However, the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder said otherwise. The flight on February 4 failed due to pilot error.

According to the chronology at 10.52 a.m., the aircraft’s number two engine, on the starboard side of the aircraft, experienced a power outage which resulted in a loss of nearly all power.

Less than a minute later, captain Liao Chien-tsung and his co-pilot Liu Tze-chung turned off the number one engine. Even though this machine is still functioning properly.

Miscommunication audible from flight data recorder.

With both engines dead, the plane at 1,630 feet began to fall. A netizen’s car dashboard recorder recorded the plane crashing right in front of him.

The roof of the taxi was split in two, the taxi was trying to escape from the wing of the plane. Miraculously, the two people in the car only suffered minor injuries.

“Mayday, mayday, engines down,” the final radio message from the cockpit to air traffic control.

The TransAsia plane plunged into the Keelung River upside down. Of the 58 passengers, only 15 survived.
