From July 1, 2020, pensions and other social benefits will be transferred exclusively to the cards of the national payment system “Mir”. This was reminded of the press service of the Pension Fund of Russia (PFR), reports “RIA News”.
Switching to Mir cards is a requirement of federal law, the FIU noted. They also clarified that this process is happening gradually. So, banks began to issue pensioners the Mir card in July 2017, when they came to receive payments. Citizens who are still receiving pensions through other payment systems will be issued Mir cards upon expiration of the validity period of their current cards. However, pensioners need to have time to get a new card before July 1 of this year.
At the same time, the FIU explained that the pensioner himself determines the method of receiving payments. “He has the right to choose the organization that delivers the pension, as well as how he will receive it: at home, at the cash desk of the delivery organization or to an account with a credit institution,” the fund explained.
Law on the transfer of payments of state employees and pensioners to Mir cards was accepted in April 2017. The document provided for a gradual transition to a new payment system. According to the law, state employees had to switch to Mir cards by July 2018, and pensioners by July 2019.
