Despite another brilliant performance from Carey Price, the Montreal Canadiens lost 3-1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night in the “bubble city” of Toronto.
By virtue of this gain, the “Pens” leveled the qualifying series opposing them to the club of La Belle Province. The two teams each have a win behind the tie.
As was the case in the first meeting between the two teams, Price has been particularly busy. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has been tested 37 times. He was particularly smoking in the second period, while the “Pens” took advantage of a power play. During this streak, he notably carried out a robbery against defender Kristopher Letang.
Sidney Crosby was the first to break through Price’s wall. In the first period, the captain of the “Pens” came alone in front of the CH goalkeeper and beat him with a sharp shot between the pads. It was the famous No.87’s 68th goal in the playoffs, which saw him join Gordie Howe in 18th place in National League history.
With just over five minutes left in the game, Jason Zucker took advantage of a quick raise to double his team’s lead.
It turned out to be the winning net, as Jesperi Kotkaniemi beat Matt Murray in the dying minutes of the clash.
The Penguins goaltender has been challenged on 26 occasions. He made his best saves early in the third period as the Canadiens desperately tried to tie the game. Jake Guentzel completed the score in an abandoned cage.
The two teams will meet Wednesday evening for the third duel of this series of a maximum of five clashes.
