The Paths of Music Festival in Bérgidum returns to Ponferrada

The Bérgidum theater brings traditional music to Ponferrada for the second time thanks to the Caminos de la Música Festival. Between July 5 and 9, the city will be filled with concerts and activities around root music and the territory of oral narration.

The festival, organized in collaboration with the Galicia Center, offers a careful program that aims to reflect the richness and diversity in the lines of work that the genre currently presents. The central stage will be the courtyard of the Old Castle, expanding activities in other spaces of the Templar fortress and in the streets. In case of rain, the concerts will be moved to the Sala Río Selmo.

The concerts will start on July 5 at the Old Castle with the duo of Luis Antonio Pedraza and Paulo Meirinhos, who present “Músicas da Raya”. With this project, which covers the music of the Spanish-Portuguese border, they intend to demonstrate that, when it comes to music, such borders do not exist.

On Wednesday, July 6, the duo Caamaño & Ameixeiras will present their first album. The album by these Galician women has been recognized with the 2021 Martín Códax de la Música Award in the Folk category, as well as the First Prize at the Folkez Blai 2021 in Ermua. According to a critic, «A breath of fresh air within the Galician music scene».

Caminos de Música will also offer street concerts, starting on July 5 with Daniel Jáñez, Diego Segura, Bea Soto, Denise Silva and Diego Bello. They will take over the streets of the Old Town and guide the attendees to the Castle, where the festival will begin, to the rhythm of instruments and their own voices. The next day they will perform at the Mercado de Abastos Los Pamplinas, a traditional quartet of pipers with a performance that evokes past times. Throughout the five days two workshops will be held: one for recycled flute and drum, in the Patio de la Tourist Office, and the second around the dance, traditional Galician and verbena, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Tickets for the concerts and the oral narration function that will be held in the Templar Castle of Ponferrada will cost 5 euros, and can be purchased both at the box office and on the Teatro Bérgidum website. In addition, on the days of the concert, tickets will also be sold at the Castle box office one hour before its start for all those interested.
