The Opera House will offer premieres of opera and ballet recordings during the festival

“The classical values of our repertoire – Leo Delība’s ballet” Copelia “and Giacomo Puccini’s opera” Madama Butterfly “in video format will reach the audience for the first time.

From December 3 to January 2, Leo Delība’s ballet “Copelia” – a classic reading of Ernst Theodore Amadeus Hoffmann’s tale “The Sandman” – will be shown. The LNOB noted that it will be especially attractive for children. “A comic, colorful, cheerful – this is the ballet in which the best soloists of the Latvian National Ballet troupe dance and play the story of the young Francis, his beloved Svanilda and the misunderstandings caused by the magic of Copelius, the mysterious daughter of Dr. Kopelius,” the ballet said.

The production of the ballet “Kopēlija” was created by choreographer Aivars Leimanis, set designer and costume designer Ināra Gauja. The main roles in the recording are Elza Leimane, Arturs Sokolovs, Ringolds Žigis and Jūlija Brauere, with Mārtiņš Ozoliņš at the conductor’s desk.

From December 10 to January 2, the production of Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Madama Butterfly”, which premiered in 1925, was staged by director Sofia Maslovsk and set designer Eduard Vitol. Over time, it has been restored, but retains the original scenography, costume design and the basic solution of the director, so it is considered one of the oldest preserved opera performances in the world. The play, which heralds the impossible love of a Japanese girl and an American officer, has become one of the cornerstones of the LNOB’s repertoire. The opera “Madama Butterfly” is conducted by Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, in the title role – Dana Bramane, Pinkerton – Raimonds Bramanis, Suzuki – Ilona Bagele, Šarpless – Jānis Apeinis.

The recordings of the ballet “Copelia” and the opera “Madama Butterfly” have been made with the support of the State Cultural Capital Foundation’s program “KultūrElpa”.

From December 17 to January 2, viewers will also have access to an annual concert at the opera, recorded in 2020. The entire Latvian National Opera and Ballet Hall has become a concert ground. The soloists – Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Jūlija Vasiljeva, Raimonds Bramanis, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Egils Siliņš – and an orchestra conducted by Mārtiņš Ozoliņš will conjure up a festive atmosphere at the concert, offering pearls of opera music and the most beautiful opera melodies. The concert features music by Joaquino Rossini, Gaetano Donicetti, Luigi Arditi, Stanislao Gastaldon, Roger Leonkavallo, Ferenc Lehar, Johann Strauss and Karl Miller.
