The President’s Office said that they have an unambiguous position regarding the conflict between the bank’s director and journalists.
The President’s Office condemned the behavior of the director of Ukreximbank during the conflict with journalists. They said that he should, at a minimum, be suspended for the duration of the investigation, and as a maximum – to be fired. This was stated by the adviser to the head of the Office of the Head of State Mikhail Podolyak, reports on Wednesday, October 6, the press service of the OP.
“The situation around Ukreximbank can only be perceived negatively. Of course, the model of behavior that the society saw from the bank’s representatives is unacceptable,” Podolyak said.
He recalled that freedom of speech belongs to the fundamental values in Ukraine. Therefore, the duty of officials at any level is to communicate correctly with journalists and respect their right to ask any questions of public importance.
“The rules of respect for journalistic work and the formats for providing access to socially important information have long been worked out, and there can be no reason not to observe them,” the OP stressed.
Now the National Police and the Bank’s Supervisory Board are investigating the incident. Podolyak noted that the Supervisory Board can moderate the further development of this situation for the financial institution.
“At the very least, the decision to remove the chairman of the bank’s board from his post seems to be logical, so that there is not a single, even hypothetical, obstacle to investigation and verification. As a maximum, to level the damage to the bank and the state, perhaps tougher personnel decisions are needed in a financial institution. “, – said in the Office of the President.
