The ONCE Social Group undertakes to donate 111,111 kilos of food to FESBAL to alleviate the effects of COVID-19

MADRID, 23 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ONCE Social Group and the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) have agreed to a collaboration agreement in which the organization agrees to donate the 111,111 kilos of food that they have collected in three weeks to alleviate the effects of COVID-19 in Spain.

Initially, ONCE had planned to reach this figure in three months, but the collaboration of its workers and affiliates has advanced the dates.

According to both organizations, the agreement has also included the delivery of a check for the value of 72,552 euros collected in the campaign of ‘Tons of Commitment’ of Grupo Social ONCE. The agreement agreement has been signed by the president of the organization, Miguel Carballeda, and the general director of FESBAL, Miguel Fernández Rodríguez.

“We live from the solidarity of citizens and when it is our turn, we do our best to give back even a little of what we receive every day,” explained Carballeda. For his part, Fernández has remarked that the coronavirus crisis has placed the Food Banks in a dramatic situation.

“If at the beginning of the year we served 1,050,000 people, in summer, at the end of the state of alarm, there were already 1,500,000 people demanding food aid, and we are currently serving 1,800,000 beneficiaries”, the director acknowledged of FESBAL.

On the other hand, ONCE has indicated that the coupon for February 4 will be dedicated to the FESBAL for its 25 years of dedication and for its “extraordinary work”. “We like to go hand in hand with fellow travelers of solidarity to whom we dedicate our best role, the image of the coupon,” Carballeda explained.
