The Omani Defense Council invited the royal family to convene to determine the successor of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who passed away, Sabah Al-Sabun, at the age of 79.

And Sultan Qaboos has no heir from his descendants, as he separated from his only wife, Nawal bint Tariq Al Said.

According to Article VI of the Omani constitution, the “white book” regulating the country’s affairs, the ruling family council chooses an heir to the throne, after it becomes vacant.

The Defense Council issued a statement on Saturday morning, confirming that it is in a permanent session and that it will apply Article VI of the constitution, to choose a successor.

The text of the statement read:

In front of this historical moment from Omar Oman and the depth of sorrow for this great event, and according to what was stipulated in Article Six of the Basic Law of the State issued by Royal Decree No. (101/96) and its amendments, the Defense Council was convened under the chairmanship of His Excellency Lieutenant General Sultan bin Muhammad al-Numani, Minister of the Royal Office and Chairman of the Defense Council Acting and in the presence of all its members, they are:

His Excellency General Hassan bin Mohsen Al-Shariqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.

His Excellency General Saeed bin Ali Al Hilali, Head of the Internal Security Agency.

Lieutenant General Ahmed bin Harith Al-Nabhani, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces.

Major General Matar bin Salem Al Balushi, Commander of the Royal Oman Army.

Major General Tayyar Matar Bin Ali Al Obaidani, Commander of the Royal Omani Air Force.

Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis Al Raisi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman.

Major General Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Junaibi, Commander of the Royal Guard of Oman.

And in implementation of Article (2 / A) of Royal Decree No. (105/96) regarding the Defense Council, the Defense Council has invited the Council of the Royal Family to convene to determine who the governing authority is transferred to, and the Defense Council will remain in a session in session, treating God by establishing loyalty and obedience to what In it the good of this dear country and raised it.
