The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has updated the list of side effects with Vaxzevria from AstraZeneca. It spread by four new symptoms that appeared in people after vaccination with this substance. The most serious of these is Guillain-Barré syndrome, which affects the nervous system.
As part of its regular update of information on the safety of covid vaccines, the EMA has announced four other side effects that will be newly introduced for a vaccine from the British company AstraZeneca.
Among the common side effects that occur in less than one in ten people, she ranked limb pain (upper and lower) and flu-like symptoms such as high fever, sore throat, runny nose and cough. It can occur in less than one in a hundred people stomach pain.
A new rare side effect that may occur in less than one in ten thousand people is Guillain-Barré syndrome. It is a serious and rare autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system.
It is manifested by paralysis, which begins at the feet and spreads to the upper limbs and face. It can lead to serious pulmonary complications and even death.
Guillain-Barré syndrome is not unknown with coronavirus vaccination. In July, the EMA included him on the list of possible side effects of Janssen vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.
However, the Medicines Agency emphasizes that in all cases there are suspected adverse reactions reported by patients and healthcare professionals after vaccination, but not necessarily related to or a direct consequence of vaccination. The causal link has not yet been confirmed.
Over 68 million doses of Vaxzevria have been administered in the European Union and the European Economic Area. EMA received over 184,000 reports of adverse reactions. Almost 890 thousand doses of vaccine from AstraZeneka are currently reported in the Czech Republic.
