In total, 116,599 people have been officially declared positive for the new coronavirus since the start of the health crisis, including 39,333 in Ontario and 59,458 in Quebec, the main focus in the country.

Quebec authorities on Saturday recorded 146 additional cases and four new deaths, bringing the total to 5,678 deaths.

In addition, Quebec has reached a new test record with 18,437 screenings in 24 hours. In total, the Belle Province was able to test 1,238,946 individuals, according to the most recent figures dating from July 30.

The Quebec Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, also noted a “new record of screening tests” while insisting that it was also necessary “to reduce the spread of cases”.

In neighboring Ontario, there have been 124 more cases as well as two deaths for a total of 2,777 deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic.

As for the Ontario laboratories, they were able to test 33,282 people in 24 hours, for a total of 2,205,254.

From coast to coast to coast, more than 4 million people have been tested since the onset of the crisis and in the past week an average of 40,665 people have been tested daily, including a few more than 1% received a positive result.

This is what Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, said on Saturday, who took advantage of her forum to encourage Canadians to participate in physical activity to maintain their physical health and of their mental well-being.

“We can all stay active and safe this summer by following proven public health practices, being aware of the risks of different activities and making informed choices,” she said.
