The number of new cases is growing rapidly, Prague is considering expanding anti-civic measures

At a meeting with Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) and other members of the city management on Tuesday, the Prague hygienists agreed to prepare material in the coming days, which should serve as a basis for a possible expansion of coronavirus measures in the metropolis.

According to a recent statement by the chief hygienist of Prague, Zdeněk Jágrová, the epidemiological situation in Prague is “alarming”. On Tuesday, she told ČT that in the last 24 hours alone, Prague hygienists registered 220 new cases of coronavirus infection. In recent days, these daily figures have averaged over the value of hundreds of new cases.

Hygienists in the capital are no longer enough to trace such numbers, despite the involvement of medics and the military. Therefore, they will be helped by colleagues from other regions, where the situation is calmer. On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Jan Hamáček admitted that, if necessary, police officers could help with tracing and calling contacts.

Prague, as the only district in the entire republic, shines orange in the so-called traffic light, which grades the spread of the disease in color, which indicates the beginning of community transmission. The individual colors are further divided according to the number scale. While a week ago, orange Prague was at level four, now it is at level six out of a total of ten.

Praguers will be tightened on Wednesday, when the obligation to wear veils in shops and shopping centers begins to apply in Prague. Restaurants, bars and nightclubs will also have to close between midnight and six o’clock in the morning. According to earlier statements by hygienists, the disease is spreading significantly in such companies in the capital. For about a week now, protective equipment has also been mandatory in the station halls and at Václav Havel Airport.

To this end, Praguers must also comply with the nationwide regulation issued by the Ministry of Health, which consists in the obligation to have a covered nose and mouth in all means of public transport, in offices and in medical and social facilities.

It is not yet clear what other measures are being considered in the metropolis.
