The number of mobile homes is increasing sharply

In the southwest as well as in all countries of Germany, the number of mobile homes rose sharply in the past year. According to the results of the vehicle statistics from the Federal Motor Transport Authority, the number of mobile homes in the southwest increased to 101,862 as of January 1, 2021. This increased the number within one year from 89,447 (as of January 1, 2020) by more than 12,400 units or 13.9%.

In Germany as a whole, according to the latest information from the Federal Motor Transport Authority, the number of vehicles increased by 14.5% or more than 85,300 vehicles within one year: from 589 355 to 674 697 mobile homes.

While the regional states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony have the highest number of mobile homes and the strongest absolute growth compared to the previous year, the eastern German states Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg recorded the strongest relative growth . There the plus of 18% and more was well above the national average. With an increase in the number of 21% or 1,935 vehicles to 11 047 mobile homes on January 1, 2021, Thuringia is the front runner in Germany.

In relation to the number of cars, however, there were a particularly large number of mobile homes in the northern German states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Lower Saxony. Around 2.6% of the total number of cars in Schleswig-Holstein were mobile homes. For comparison: in Baden-Württemberg it was 1.5%, nationwide it was just under 1.4%.

Around 85,800 motorhomes in the southwest are diesel-powered, just under 3,400 are gasoline-powered, 216 run on liquid gas, 12 run on natural gas and 3 have a purely electric drive (as of 01/01/2020).
