Specialists in geriatric medicine are very concerned about the increasing number of infections in nursing homes. In a week, the number of elderly people infected with corona has doubled. This also means that more elderly people died, the Telegraaf and Skipr report.

Last week, 257 elderly people in nursing homes were reported to have been diagnosed with corona, of which 34 died from its consequences. Professional association Verenso, in which the specialists for elderly medicine are united, has established that testing suspected infected residents and care workers can be much better. If it were up to Verenso, vulnerable elderly people and care personnel in nursing homes will also get priority when testing for corona.
“Being able to test quickly in the event of an outbreak is extremely important, both for residents and for staff who have had contact with the sick residents,” says chairman Jacqueline Groot.
