The number of beds available for Covid-19 patients has been increased to approximately 800 / Day

The politician said that the abolition of planned services in hospitals will provide an additional 157 beds for Covid-19 patients.

Dūrītis added that in parallel there are still negotiations with hospitals, for example, in Balvi, which could be involved in the care of Covid-19 patients, the number of available beds could increase even more.

The number of beds for Covid-19 patients has been gradually increased in the past. On November 12, the Minister of Health Ilze Hänķele (AP) explained that the bed limit for Covid-19 patients, at which it is not necessary to significantly limit planned health care measures, is between 450 and a maximum of 500 beds.

On November 22, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) told TV3 that there are 200 infection beds in Latvia every day that would be suitable for Covid-19 patients, but their number has been increased to 595 beds. A few days later, Nickel reported that 633 beds were available in hospitals for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Dūrītis pointed out that VM is currently actively working on mechanisms to increase the testing capacity of Covid-19, especially on holidays when the number of tests is smaller.

He did not deny the potential for even stricter restrictions in the country in the future, saying that it is now very important for the public to comply with existing safety measures to avoid such a situation, given that the development of vaccine development could put an end to the pandemic.
