Car manufacturer Tesla starts in the S&P 500 index
New York (AFP) – Against the background of the new coronavirus mutation, the New York stock exchange also opened in the red on Monday. The leading Dow Jones index was 0.6 percent in the red around a quarter of an hour after the trading center opened, the Nasdaq technology index was 0.8 percent and the S&P 500 index was 1.0 percent.

Since Monday, the US electric car manufacturer Tesla has also been part of the prestigious S&P 500 share index, which includes the largest listed US companies. One of the conditions for inclusion is profitability over several quarters. The automaker’s shares lost 5.4 percent after the start.
The agreement of the parties in the US Congress on a gigantic new corona aid package apparently failed to dampen investors’ fear of the new variant of the virus. The mutation has already been detected in other countries.
