The new version of the coronavirus omicron can endanger humanity to the same extent as the Ebola virus. This was announced by the President of the World Medical Association (WMA) Frank Ulrich Montgomery, quoted by Russian media.

“My biggest fear is that this strain could become infected like delta and as dangerous as Ebola,” he said.

There are no exact data on the risks of the omicron mutation, but it appears to be spreading very quickly, Montgomery said. It does not rule out the need for revaccination against COVID-19 to be performed annually.

The new version was spotted a few days ago in Bostvan and South Africa. It contains 32 mutations in the S-protein – more than any other variant of SARS-CoV-2. It was called the Greek letter omicron.
