Subaru will introduce a new generation of its rally icons in the coming years. But don’t look forward to it in Europe. At least in the near future.

Subaru Chile is working on a new generation of its already traditional sports sedan, which currently bears the WRX designation. It will be introduced to the world later this year, with Subaru attracting its premiere with its first trailer. At the moment, however, it is still not clear whether the new WRX, hence the top WRX STI, will reach the European markets as well.
It should be noted, however, that it is not very clear from the published trailer, the car is hiding in the dark, and so only the silhouette of a compact sedan and the characteristic vent in the hood are noticeable.
In any case, according to previous information, the car should stylistically follow the Viziv Performance concept from 2017, which would suggest the use of sharp edges. The technical basis will then be provided by the modular architecture of the Subaru Global Platform, also known from other current models of the brand.

So far, we do not know even more detailed technical data, the carmaker only promises the “arrival of a new rally icon”. However, there is already strong speculation about the use of the FA24F engine, which should be an engine with counter-rotating pistons with a capacity of 2.4 liters, which will of course be doped with a turbocharger. It has to offer an output of around 221 kW (300 hp), but in the top specification the WRX STI can be said to have up to 294 kW (400 hp). Typically, all four wheels will be powered by Subaru, but the use of a manual transmission is uncertain. In the spirit of the times, only a vending machine could be offered.
However, European fans are deciding whether the new WRX will ever reach Europe. Subaru has already announced in advance that its arrival on the old continent is affected by fleet emission standards. After all, this is one of the reasons why the second generation of the BRZ coupe is not planned in our country yet, although it has sold well so far. Definitely the success of the electric Solterra SUV, developed with Toyota, which could compensate for the high emissions of sports models.
The current Subaru WRX has been on sale since 2014. At that time, it came on the market as a stand-alone model, which replaced the existing Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STI derivatives, respectively. In European markets, the car ended in 2018, due to emission standards that affect the brand’s offer to this day.
