Although not clear enough from the original press release, the Toyota Yaris with the Mazda logos, introduced as the Mazda 2 Hybrid, is not a replacement for the conventional model sold since 2015, but a new car on offer, the carmaker said on Tuesday. This is despite the fact that the Japanese brand has just been on offer for six years.

The conventional Mazda 2, which has petrol engines connected to a manual or automatic transmission under the hood and which shares its platform with the CX-3 crossover, remains on offer for the time being. It will start selling in an upgraded version next year.

It makes sense that the rebranded yaris will only be available in Mazda’s hybrid versions. If you are interested in a conventional small car in the city, you can choose from three versions of the petrol fifteen with an output of 75, 90 or 115 hp.
