The new government of the Czech Republic has canceled the mandatory vaccination against COVID-19

The previous government, led by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, issued a decree in early December that made vaccination mandatory for people aged 60 and over, as well as medical staff, police officers, firefighters and medical students.

It was supposed to come into force in March.

But later in December, the Babiš government was replaced by a new one led by Petar Fiala.

“We have agreed that COVID-19 vaccination will not be mandatory,” Fial said.

The new government’s decision came as the Czech Republic is facing a surge in cases of coronavirus caused by the Omicron strain.
