The new Fabia will be a great car, the Škoda boss promises. The fight for Superb – AutoTN.cz – does not give up either

The future of the Škoda carmaker has been talked about a lot lately – the parent Volkswagen allegedly wants to produce cheap cars at the Dacia level, it also wants to move the production of premium Superb and Kodiaq models outside the Czechia. How does the new head of Škoda Auto, Thomas Schäfer, see it? Ledacos indicated in a new interview for the corporate magazine Škoda Mobil, which partly published the Škoda Storyboard website.

There is speculation that the Czechia will lose the Superb and Kodiaq, which are manufactured in Kvasiny – the first is to move to Bratislava together with Passat, the second to Germany. According to Schäfer, however, it is still not decided.

“It would be a big mistake if we did not make full use of the yeast plant. Yeast is one of the most efficient and modern companies in the entire VW network and has educated and highly motivated colleagues. At the moment we are in the middle of long negotiations with the VW Group. “I am convinced that we will find a good and long-term solution for everyone,” said the new chairman of the board.

That Škoda would only install cheap cars in the Czech Republic instead of premium models? “We are certainly not aiming for Škoda to become a cheap brand. We will focus on Korean, Japanese and French manufacturers, these are our main competitors and we will compete with them and use the brand’s potential together,” Schäfer repeated.

He has high hopes for the new generation Fabia, which is likely to hit the market again as a station wagon. And he revealed that we can expect the arrival of a new Fabia next year. “I’m already looking forward to launching the new Fabia next year. It will be a great car, so my expectations are high,” he said.

He does not want to have a cheap brand from Škoda, but he will probably push for the production of affordable models. “Škoda Auto is in a clear position at the moment, providing great value for money. Simply Clever solutions, exceptional spaciousness, practicality and unique design offered by every model work perfectly for our customers. Škoda cars will always be available – whether we target students , young families or older couples. We will continue to follow this direction. However, in addition to the current model line, I see other growth opportunities in conquering new markets or a greater focus on the available car segment, thus gaining the opportunity to significantly expand the customer portfolio, “he described his plans. .

This year’s economy was significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the spring production outage. According to Schäfer, however, recent months have shown that Škoda is recovering. “For the rest of the year, we will do everything in our power to minimize the impact on our business. Current sales data show that this year is by no means lost. We are working hard to make the most of it. The July results even “they were 8% better year-on-year, we were able to significantly increase our market share and August also looks very promising. My thanks go to the whole team for that,” he added.
