The new compact MG4 Electric SUV debuted in Europe with a range of up to 450 kilometers

British carmaker Morris Garage (MG) has unveiled the new MG4 Electric compact class SUV for the European market. The zero-emission model will make its commercial debut in the last quarter of 2022. Prices will be announced at launch.

Designed as a direct rival for models such as Volkswagen ID.3 and Nissan Leaf, the new MG4 Electric was already unveiled a few weeks ago in China. Unlike the version for the Old Continent, the one intended for customers in this country will be marketed under the name of MG Mulan.

After the MG5 electric break, the company also unveiled its second zero-emission model, which was named MG4 Electric. It must be said that there has been a lot of discussion about the name chosen for the European version of the compact. Finally, MG officials decided on a trade name that is consistent with its other models.

The new MG4 Electric will use two battery versions: 51 kWh and 64 kWh

The development process was coordinated entirely by the Chinese from SAIC Motor, the parent company of the MG brand. The new car is the first electric developed by MG on the new modular architecture MSP (Modular Scalable Platform).

This means that the car will use two variants of the new One Pack battery pack, which is 110 millimeters thick. The first of these has 51 kWh and will power the basic version MG4, which is equipped with a single electric motor of 170 hp.

The declared range of this version is up to 350 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The second battery has a net capacity of 64 kWh and also powers an electric motor, but it develops 204 hp. The range in this case can reach 450 kilometers.

The electric compact is capable accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km / h. These values are close to those of Volkswagen ID.3. MG specified that a variant with all-wheel drive will be launched later, which will offer superior performance. The car measures almost 4.3 meters in length and has a height of 1.5 meters.

Aesthetically, MG4 was inspired by several sources. For example, the front resembles that of the new Chevrolet Corvette. The back is reminiscent of the Hyundai i20, and the side profile makes you think of the Peugeot 2008. The silhouette is SUV, and the ground clearance is surprisingly high for a compact.

The new MG4 Electric will only be available in certain European markets. The commercial debut is scheduled for the last quarter of this year. Prices have not been announced yet.
