The Netherlands is one of the first countries to approve the ‘home-work law’ | Instagram VTM NEWS

Many Dutch people worked from home for months during the corona crisis. According to the initiators, this can be beneficial for companies, employees and society.

“It is often not necessary at all to stand in a traffic jam for an hour to go to work”, mentions D66 MP Steven van Weyenberg as an example. It is not necessary to be at the office to send an email to colleagues, he emphasizes. “Sometimes you can concentrate extra well at home and update the administration, and then also open the door for the plumber.”

“Due to the corona period, we have seen that hybrid working has benefits for a very large part of the employees,” says GroenLinkser Senna Matoug. “It gives them the opportunity to find a better work-life balance and reduce travel time. That is why this law is an important step for them.”

Various studies have already shown that more people are working from home after the corona crisis than before. The Dutch Social and Economic Council had already advised that the employee should be given sufficient say in this matter. The parties have included this advice in their proposal.
