The native was hugely responsible for a valuable point against Liverpool. Fulham coach: We deserved more

Slovakian goalkeepers Marek Rodák and Martin Dúbravka graduated from the 1st round of the English Premier League with different feelings. While the former was involved in a valuable point in the draw with favorites Liverpool, Dúbravka watched his Newcastle side’s 2-0 victory over Nottihgham from the bench alone.

The natives of Fulham led twice but ultimately failed to end Liverpool’s unbeaten league run in a calendar year. The Slovakian goalkeeper received confidence from coach Marc Silva from the beginning of the match, but he did not prevent the goals of Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah after defensive mistakes.

“I think we deserved more than one point for today’s performance. I know Liverpool played better in the second half than the first, but the organization of our game was still great. It’s a good point for us at the start of the competition, but we could have more. If we play like this in the next matches, I won’t be worried.” noted the Fulham coach.

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp was very dissatisfied with the performance of his charges: “From my point of view, we got a point after a very bad performance. Our approach was not right and we didn’t deserve more than a point. We did the exact opposite of what we wanted. The result is not a loss, but the performance corresponds to the loss. We have to figure out what happened and fix it” bbc.com quoted Klopp as saying.

After the meeting, the captain of “The Reds” did not talk about the absence of several players, who were joined by Thiago Alcantara at the beginning of the second half. Apart from him, Liverpool also missed Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Konstantinos Cimikas, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ibrahima Konate.

Unlike Rodák, Martin Dúbravka watched his team’s success only from the bench. Newcastle’s 2-0 win against Nottingham was picked up by Burnley’s summer signing Nick Pope, but he didn’t have much to do. The guests presented themselves with only five shooting attempts, not even one of them was on target. This balance was in marked contrast to the activity of the home team, who had 23 shots, 10 of which were on goal. “It was an excellent performance from start to finish,” stated Newcastle coach Eddie Howe.

FC Chelsea players won at Everton for the first time since April 30, 2017 (3:0 at the time). Home coach Frank Lampard, who was an icon of the London club during his playing career, praised his team’s performance against the favourites. “I’m sorry we didn’t get a point. The only difference was that they took a penalty and we didn’t.” remarked Lampard, referring to the first-half stoppage-time penalty from which Jorginho sealed a 1-0 victory. He punished Abdoulaye Doucoure’s foul on Ben Chilwell.

“Every time we play at Everton, it’s a tough game. We knew it would be like that now. The most important thing is that we got the three points, but our performance showed us that we have a lot to work on.” coach Thomas Tuchel told bbc.com.
