The Mystery of the Rocket Hit the Moon, Astronomers Guess Made in China

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Various speculations arose after a rocket reportedly hit the Moon. One of them is the possibility that the rocket belongs to China, the Long March 3C, which was launched last October 2014.

The researchers confirmed the speculation. It is reported that the object emits a wavelength of light similar to that of other Chinese rockets.

However Popsci reports China denies its rocket hit the Moon. The reason is that the vehicle carrying the Chang’e-5 T1 spacecraft caught fire as it re-entered Earth’s atmosphere, quoted Friday (1/7/2022).

Previously, it was thought the rocket was SpaceX’s Falcon 9. The rocket was first discovered by astronomer Bill Gray who detected a collision course of space debris on the far side of the Moon in January. The space junk turned out to be the top of a discarded rocket.

Gray initially thought the part came from Falcon 9. But NASA engineers disputed this theory, because the rocket-launched Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) did not follow the same orbit as the ejected ship.

The accident happened in March. Meanwhile, astronomers only discovered the location of the incident and the presence of a double crater on the Moon’s surface on June 24, 2022.

The double crater is two overlapping gaps. The eastern crater has a diameter of 19.5 yards covering the western crater 17.5 yards.

The image of the crater was taken by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been in charge of photographing the Moon’s surface since 2009. Unfortunately, the robotic spacecraft did not observe the moment of the collision.

Earlier on the Apollo-era Saturn 5 rocket, which carried the Moon’s first rover, actually created a crater. But do not leave the form of twins as happened last March.

Another unique thing about the two craters created by the rocket hitting the moon is that they are almost the same size. Usually, used rockets are heavier in one corner. The corner where the engine is installed will be much heavier because the fuel stored in the other corner is empty.

However, the upper corner of the rocket hitting the moon can create a large hole, which makes the rocket even more mysterious.
