The Mystery of the Big Bang in the Texas Sky

Texas

Loud bang in the sky of Texas made residents shocked and frightened. Even boom it made the house shake and scared the birds. NASA also stepped in and provided an explanation of the mystery.

As quoted detikINET from CNN, Monday (20/2/2023) the explosion was heard by residents in the Lower Rio Grande Valley area. Several residents recorded the sound of the explosion until it was quite lively discussed on social media when it was posted.

Moreover, recently several unidentified objects were shot by the US military, making the atmosphere even more tense. “Obviously with all these incidents, you can imagine how scared our people are,” the local sheriff said.

Many theories were put forward until finally NASA gave an explanation. They stated, most likely the loud sound from the sky came from the explosion of a meteor weighing an estimated 450 kilograms. The meteorite disintegrates after entering Earth’s atmosphere.

“NASA experts believe that the object is a meteorite. The angle and speed of entry of the object, together with its signature on weather radar, are consistent with other meteor impacts,” said NASA.

Satellites from the National Weather Service also detected the meteor. Likewise, two pilots claimed to have witnessed it. The meteor had shattered into pieces, making a sound boomand the debris landed in a region far away from the settlement.

“Although meteorites tend to strike Earth’s atmosphere at high speeds, they slow through the atmosphere, breaking into small fragments before hitting the surface. Meteors cool quickly and generally do not pose a risk to the public,” said NASA.

NASA added that this kind of meteor shower is a reminder for them to always be vigilant, especially for large asteroid showers in the future. “This meteor in the sky is a reminder for NASA to increase our understanding of and protection of Earth,” said NASA.
