The ministry wants to increase the working hours of teachers, but they are against it

The Ministry of Education has sent a manual to school principals about changes in pedagogical intervention that will take place from 1 February. Pedagogical intervention is intended for pupils with special educational needs, sometimes incorrectly referred to as tutoring. It is included in direct pedagogical activities.

In practice, this means that especially teachers of Czech and mathematics will increase their working hours by an extra hour a week, but without the right to a higher salary. “The Pedagogical Chamber does not agree to increase direct pedagogical activities for teachers by one hour without the right to a higher salary. Mathematics and Czech teachers, who are mainly engaged in pedagogical intervention, will have 23 hours of work from February instead of the current 22 teaching hours per week.” chamber Radek Sarközi.

According to the Pedagogical Chamber, the results are 4.5 percent more work, the payment of which is not guaranteed in any way. Until now, teaching over a full-time period of 22 hours has been funded as an overtime hour, for which twice the hourly rate was due. Now, however, there is a risk that this extra hour will not be paid by the state.

“I believe that the amendment to the government regulation, which introduces this change from 1 February, is in conflict with the Labor Code, so the Pedagogical Chamber will initiate the Ombudsman’s office in this matter to initiate its repeal,” Sárközi added.

Schools are still closed. Because of this, tutoring is growing in popularity. Watch the Nova TV report:
