The Ministry of Health and Population warned, through its official account on the social networking site “Twitter”, against smoking hookah, whether in homes or cafes, stressing that it is not safe in all cases.
Clarification from the Ministry of Health–
The Ministry of Health said that smoking hookah in homes leads to exposure to second-hand smoke, and it also warned of the dangers that pregnant women and infants are exposed to due to cigarette smoke and hookah, and demanded the necessity to quit smoking.
And the Ministry of Health said, pregnant women inhaling cigarette or hookah smoke may lead to health problems for the fetus and difficulty in learning for the child, and children and infants inhaling tobacco smoke from smokers’ parents increases their risk of sudden infant death syndrome, low physical growth, and childhood cancer, noting that Exposure of children to tobacco smoke causes chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma, ear infections and decreased lung function, and children of smoking mothers suffer more respiratory attacks.
