The Ministry of Health and Population announced the Ministry’s cooperation with the social networking site Facebook through an initiative to spread awareness about the new Corona virus (COFED-19) among Egyptian and non-Egyptian citizens inside Egypt.
Dr. Khaled Mujahid, Advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Media Affairs and the official spokesman of the Ministry, said that this initiative came after the announcement of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that the company will support all of the ministries of health in the world and the World Health Organization to spread awareness of the emerging corona virus and fight the rumors circulating Facebook on the virus.
“Mujahid” indicated that within the plan and efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population to spread health awareness of preventive measures and fight rumors to counter the Corona virus, the ministry will, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, provide Facebook with educational educational content and Facebook will in turn deliver it to the largest number of Egyptians and non Egyptians inside Egypt.
He pointed out that it was agreed to allocate an awareness campaign on Facebook within two weeks, with the aim of raising awareness by publishing educational messages approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.
He added that the aim of the initiative is to fight rumors and eliminate the circulation of inaccurate health information that is alarming among citizens, pointing out that under the cooperation the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, becomes the only source of correct information about the virus in Egypt.
This comes within the framework of Facebook’s keenness to harness its technical capabilities to enhance the efforts of various governments in dealing with the global disease as part of its international social responsibility.
Mujahid stated that the website “care.gov.eg” will become the only source for the results of users’ search on “Facebook” about the Corona virus, and the site will in turn update the content periodically to ensure that the updated and correct information reaches the public.
