The minister of education reveals what to do with schools

We have created a system that allows you to respond to coronavirus infections also in schools. It has been working well and efficiently so far. Wherever there are threats, the sanitary inspection intervenes and, together with the school management and the leading body, i.e. the local government, most often decide whether to transfer a group of students and teachers to distance learning, or sometimes the entire school – said Piontkowski on Polish Radio 24.

He admitted that “the number of schools that have to convert to such a system is actually increasing, to a small extent so far, but it is still a margin of all institutions in Poland”. From the data we had on Friday, it is still below a percentage – he informed.

We want those schools where there is no epidemiological threat to be able to continue functioning – he informed. He noted that “the experience of Poland and other countries has shown that distance learning has considerable limitations, as well as consistent negative social and psychological effects”.

We would prefer to avoid closing schools for a longer period of time, so we do not foresee such a decision for the time being, with such an epidemic (…) the system that we created at the beginning of August can easily work – he said. So, as he explained – “a point reaction, where there is a real threat in the facility or an increased threat in a given commune or poviat. Then, the Sanepid may, on its own initiative, apply to the school headmaster with a request to switch to distance education – informed the minister of education.
