Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis (VL-TB / LNNK) will visit the Liepaja Theater on 31 August and participate in an external meeting of the Council of the State Cultural Capital Foundation (SCCF).
According to the representative of the Ministry of Culture Dace Vizule, the external meeting of the SCCF Council will take place in the concert hall “Lielais dzintars”. To evaluate the Fund’s operational strategy for 2015 until 2020 on the agenda of the meeting and to discuss the draft strategy for the next period.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the meeting is intended to discuss, discuss and evaluate the strategy of the previous period, as well as outline the strategic settings for the next period, as the composition of the SCCF council changes, in a wider circle, with the participation of both existing and new council members.
In turn, after the sitting, the Minister of Culture, on his own initiative, plans to visit the Liepāja Theater, meet with its staff and management. It is planned that the Minister will answer the questions of media representatives at 6 pm in the theater premises.
Concluding the visit to Liepāja, Puntulis will also visit Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design, the representative of the ministry Vizule pointed out.
LETA has already announced that if the Liepāja Theater does not receive financial support to eliminate the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis, it may have to suspend its operation already in October. Liepāja Theater is a municipal capital company, therefore it did not receive financial support from the government to eliminate the consequences of the crisis caused by Covid-19.
In talks with the Ministry of Culture, Liepāja City Council and the theater repeatedly pointed out that the state cannot directly help the theater owned by the municipality, but indirectly funding could be obtained through the SCCF project competition, previously said Liepāja City Council Chairman Jānis Vilnītis (LRA), adding projects, where the maximum possible funding for each of these projects would be up to 30,000 euros. The evaluation of the projects will take place in September, so funding would already be available in the autumn.
