Xiaomi unveiled this Thursday, June 11, the Mi Band 5, its new activity sensor with value for money still as aggressive. In the program in this fifth version, a larger screen and new features.

The Mi Band 5 was unveiled this Thursday June 11 by Xiaomi. As expected, this new model broadly incorporates the design of the Mi Smart Band 4. But the Chinese manufacturer still allowed some more than welcome additions. Launched on June 18 in the Middle Kingdom, the Mi Band 5 will be marketed for 189 yuan (23.55 €) in its standard version. It will take 229 yuan (28.54 €) to add the NFC. It remains to be seen which version will arrive in France. On the Mi Smart Band 4, only the version without NFC had made the trip.
A larger screen, and software additions
We find on this Mi Band 5 a slightly larger polycarbonate case (4.72 x 1.85, 1.24 cm) than that of the Mi Smart Band 4 (4.68 x 1.78 x 1.26), new format allowing to accommodate a screen of 1.1 inch, or 0.2 inch more than on the previous model. This original Oled panel displays in 126 x 294 px for a resolution of 291 ppi. Another innovation, the model now offers a discreet magnetic charging system, no longer requiring to remove the sensor from the silicone strap – a system that should prove to be practical. Xiaomi also took advantage of this new model to integrate a number of software additions. The Mi Band 5 can thus be used to remotely trigger photo taking on a smartphone. The sensor also detects a greater number of recognized sports, especially in the area of bodybuilding. Finally, a new mode allows women to follow their menstrual cycle, but little information has been revealed by the manufacturer.

For the rest, this Mi Band 5 offers a technical sheet close to its predecessor. We thus find the same battery of sensors, with in the program a heart rate monitor, a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a barometer. On the other hand, still no GPS – it will therefore be necessary to resolve to go out with your smartphone to track the distances traveled – and no music either, since the sensor only offers 16 MB of internal memory, space which will probably be dedicated to the OS, notifications and wallpapers available. On this point, Xiaomi plays on the presence of a multitude of wallpapers related to popular culture. We find a set of home screens Bob L’éponge, Evangelion or Detective Conan. Finally, the 125 mAh accumulator should allow an autonomy at least as spectacular as that of the Mi Smart Band 4.
