The meteorologist struggles to interpret the weather, but comes with a clear warning

– This week it will be a very variable weather. Night to Sunday it was minus 20 degrees in several places in Norway, and on Monday it will be mild weather again. This roller coaster weather continues every day of the coming week, says Mariann Aabrekk, meteorologist at StormGeo.

Because while it has been minus degrees in large parts of Norway this weekend, the mild weather is coming inland.

– It is a low pressure that is off the coast and that is on its way into Norway. It will cause mild weather and precipitation throughout Norway on Monday. The only exception is Troms and Finnmark where there will be a number of clouds, says the meteorologist.

Opportunities for snow

About 20 to 40 millimeters of precipitation has been reported in Western Norway during Monday. In the Oslo area and the hinterland, up to 10 millimeters have been reported. But what kind of precipitation is coming, the meteorologist can not interpret.

– It is almost impossible to say how the precipitation comes, because there are so many temperature fluctuations locally. The precipitation can just as well come as snow, then sleet, and then rain later, says the meteorologist.

– There may be snow in southern Norway. The question is whether the mild weather comes before the precipitation. In the mountains and parts of the Inland, there will probably be snow, but not the large amounts, she says.

Mirror smooth

Due to the changing weather, the meteorologist has a warning for those who are going out on the road.

– What is certain is that it can be very slippery. We are in a cold situation, but go over to hot, then it gets cold again. This will cause the moisture, whether it is fog, the rain that is already on the ground, or the rain that is falling, to give ice on the road, the meteorologist explains.

The Meteorological Institute also has a clear message for those who are going out on the road.

– From lunchtime on Monday, there is a danger of rain freezing on the ground in parts of Eastern Norway. We have sent out a yellow warning. Shoe to the conditions and drive carefully, they write on Twitter.

Sudden change

The mild weather that comes in over the country on Monday will not last long. On Tuesday, north winds are reported.

– Night to Tuesday, it is an abrupt change to north wind. Then it will be nice weather with sun in most of southern Norway. The only downside to the nice weather is that it gets cold, says Aabrekk.

Temperatures will be around minus five degrees in Oslo and the rest of southern Norway. For the northernmost part of the country, the clouds will characterize the sky.

– The nice weather will apply all the way from Oslo and up to Bodø, but it seems that it will be cloudy. For Troms and Finnmark, there will be snow showers all week, the meteorologist elaborates.

Another shift

The north wind that gives cold on Tuesday seems to disappear on Wednesday again.

– Then the weather will once again change. What we see is that from Wednesday there will be a south wind that will give relatively mild weather, she says.

In the north it will continue with snow showers, while in the south the degree will creep on the plus side towards the weekend.

– In the lowlands, there will be plus degrees towards the weekend. For the Oslo area and Western Norway, the degrees will be around four to five degrees. It will be a bit cloudy, which means that we do not get the temperature drops at night, the meteorologist says.
