This year there is no maypole in many districts and municipalities around Würzburg, because Covid-19 and the corresponding requirements made it impossible, or only difficult, to set up the maypole in the usual way.
The Hätzfeld district, the organizer of the traditional maypole installation on the Rathausplatz in Heidingsfeld, was also confronted with this new situation. Therefore, they took up the challenge according to a press release and looked for an alternative to the big maypole and after consultation, in compliance with appropriate measures imposed by the city, set up the maypole of hope, confidence and wishes, a little over six meters high birch with ribbons and framed by a specially constructed fence made of wood.
Last year, the Hätzfeld district had to come up with something that there could be a maypole, because at that time the conversion work on the Rathausplatz was still in full swing. “At that time we therefore put it in a miniature version directly at the Salmannsturm, which was a new but thoroughly positive experience and was happily supported and celebrated by the Hätzfeld,” said Dominic Hoffmann from the Hätzfeld district.
Because the association is also affected by the failure of its festivities, which serve to preserve the Salmann storm, from the Corona crisis. Everyone is invited to decorate the sapling and the fence with hopeful sayings and to attach wishes or wish lists. “The tree of hope should now encourage us and strengthen cohesion even more despite the distance,” continued Hoffmann.
On the first day, the first sayings were written on the border. Via [email protected] suggestions, ideas, support can be brought in and all kinds of ideas can be exchanged.
