The Mayor of Madrid told the Municipal Police: “There was no day when the silent streets of the city of Madrid did not have an agent” | Madrid

Three words have served the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, this morning to summarize his intervention in the celebration of the patron of the Municipal Police, on Saint John’s Day, and compile everything done during the last year, and especially during the alarm state. “Thank you, thank you very much” has been the beginning and the closing of his speech. The entire act has been marked by the coronavirus and the effort the city has made to overcome it. In fact, the recognitions have fallen to people and institutions that have been fighting for the last almost four months against the disease. The councilor for Security, Immaculate Sanz, has announced that in the first fortnight of July the oppositions will resume so that 300 new troops enter the body and another with a similar number will be removed.

The central act of the celebration of the pattern of the Municipal Police, in which the rain was not lacking at times, has been developed in the car ride of the Retiro. This edition has reduced the number of people invited to 800 participants and winners. In addition, the chairs have been placed with a minimum distance of two meters. The highest award of the body, the Police medal, has gone to the chief commissioner Emilio Monteagudo, who retires after 37 years of service next August; to the Military Emergency Unit (UME); the president of the 2nd Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, Manuel Marchena; to the Spanish Legion, for the centenary of its creation and to the Comprehensive Center for Security and Emergency Training (CIFSE) for the important teaching activity it carries out and for having become a benchmark in security training. At the proposal of the government team, this award has also been imposed on the Madrid Municipal Police Corps, for the dedication and commitment of public service also demonstrated during these months, according to the mayor in his speech.

“We knew that the Madrid Municipal Police Corps was going to be willing to face any adversity. There was not a day when the streets were empty, when the silent streets of the city of Madrid did not have an agent. In any corner, in any square, on any street, anywhere, not only fulfilling your duty and obligation but even going further ”, the mayor has summarized in an effusive and grateful tone. “The highest honor that we Madrid residents have received during these pandemic months has been precisely to count on your service. This medal is not a discretionary act of the governing board of the Madrid City Council. This medal is a due act, of gratitude, of support, of affection towards all of you and towards your work ”, added the mayor, who began his speech with a commemoration to all the victims of the coronavirus and especially to the three agents deceased by the pandemic. His relatives have received a posthumous recognition medal.

“Thank you for your quiet and silent work. Thank you very much. There is nothing more to say ”, Martínez-Almeida has finished.

The Mayor, accompanied by other authorities such as the Deputy Mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, or the Government delegate, José Manuel Franco, has awarded another 37 Medals for Police Professional Merit; 106 Police Professional Merit Crossings and 40 Merit Crossings, in addition to diplomas and commemorative plaques. Among the winners has been the Samur, Firefighters of the City Council, Firefighters of the Community of Madrid, the municipal funeral, the Social Samur and all the hospitals in the capital. Medical managers or managers have received the awards. In addition to reviewing the troops, there has been an act of tribute to all those who died in the body, which this time has been extended to victims of the coronavirus. Martínez-Almeida has gone to a monolith together with the chief curator and head of the body, Teodoro Pérez García, where a laurel wreath has been deposited. Music was playing in the background Death is not the end.

All the political groups have received from the Municipal Police a commemorative plaque for their performance during the state of alarm. They have been collected by the different municipal spokesmen, which has also been appreciated by the mayor. The program has also been awarded Madrid Direct, from Telemadrid; to the Madrid section of the Europa Press agency and to the Abc.
