The Masquerade – Bloodhunt’, who rules dark Prague?

Hint: I am it.

Then fellow Moth Sander broke the news last year that the World of Darkness, and then specifically Vampire: the Masquerade, When I got a Battle Royale game, my first impression was something along the lines of: uuuuuhh…? I had my doubts. Anyway, we are now almost a year further and September 7th came Bloodhunt out as ‘free to play’ in Early Access on Steam. I’ve spent a good number of hours climbing around the rooftops of Prague, shooting and chopping at fellow vampires. And you know what? There is potential here!

In Bloodhunt you play as one of six archetypes (think of it as classes) divided among three currently available vampire clans. De Brujah, Nosferatu and Toreador. Prague is besieged by an anti-supernatural militant group and every vampire also wants to smash each other’s heads in order to benefit from it. It’s up to you alone or your team of three to be left alone as Prague’s playable environment shrinks from a red gas that is deadly to vampires.

The verticality of the map makes Bloodhunt quite a separate beast from previous Battle Royales. You can literally climb up and jump from anywhere (no falling damage!) and every clan has its tricks to possibly turn the tide. Mind you: the game is definitely still in Early Access and what there is to play now might be a bit sparse if you’re used to other BRs that are overflowing with content. Nevertheless, there is a fully working and amusing gameplay loop and the gameplay is smooth and fun. The game even manages to capture that real World of Darkness mood. Everything is just a little darker and more gothic than the real world. That makes me happy!

Bloodhunt already provides quite a few hours of fun and will certainly expand considerably in the course of early access. Best of all, the game is free to play and the in-game shop doesn’t sell items that impact the gameplay, just the cosmetic side. Beautiful. You can play it on Steam and it has also been announced that the game coming to PS5 later this year.

Got curious? Definitely give the game a try! I’ll see you in Prague.
