The mask is compulsory in certain places of Hyères and during events

A municipal decree, valid from Monday morning, makes wearing a mask compulsory:
– in downtown Hyères: avenues Gambetta and Îles d’Or, rue Général De Gaulle, Portalet and Massillon, places Massillon, de la République and Clemenceau
– place Daviddi at the Ayguade
– rue des Marchands à la Capte
– village center in Giens
– reception quay, Place d’Armes and its streets adjacent to Porquerolles
– Île de Port-Cros and Île du Levant.

This decision is explained by the declaration of a few cases of Covid-19 in the town. At least one person has tested positive after attending an evening bringing together several hundred people last weekend at Plan-du-Pont. In addition, three cases were declared positive among the staff of a retirement institution.

Mayor Jean-Pierre Giran explains: “Taking into account the evolution of the epidemic in the neighboring departments and in the desire to allow the continuation of a certain number of activities in conditions of maximum security, I decided in consultation with the Prefect of Var, beyond the rules of distancing which had to be respected, to impose the wearing of the obligatory mask for part of the territory of the commune and for all the demonstrations leading to strong gatherings of people “.

The summer activities are maintained (White Nights, open-air cinema, liberation festival), but wearing a mask will be compulsory. In the same idea, a mask compulsory for all users of the day and night markets (producers , resellers and public).

Commercial establishments are also strongly advised not to organize festive evenings leading to excessive gathering.

In Porquerolles, a Covid-19 screening center will be set up from Tuesday at the Commandant’s house, in partnership with a medical analysis laboratory and the island doctor.

A meeting will be held on Monday, in the presence of local elected officials, representatives of the ARS, doctors from the territorial health community and laboratory workers, to assess the need to reopen the Covid-19 center in La Villette (Espace 3000) who was active during the lockdown. “It could be operational in 24 hours if the activity of the laboratories was overflowing, which is not currently the case”, explains the mayor.

“I do not intend to alarm the population, but I apply the precautionary principle, notes Jean-Pierre Giran. Hyères is a tourist capital with a lot of population mixing “. Especially at the start of the weekend of August 15th.
