The marathon runner Joglová clearly met the Olympic limit

Marathon runner Marcela Joglová met the Olympic limit. At Twente Airport near the Dutch Enschede, she improved her personal record to 2:28:16 and got more than a minute below the required time. After the World Championships in Doha, where she finished twentieth, she will present herself at another top athletic event. She returned to third place in the Czech historical tables ahead of Moira Stewart, who two weeks ago in Switzerland fell short of the 2:29:30 limit by just nine seconds. Only Eva Vrabcová Nývltová and Alena Peterková ran faster.

Joglová had a personal record of 2:31:29 from the December Valencia marathon, from which she needed two minutes to fulfill her Olympic dream. She started working with coach Jan Pernica and took shape in Kenya, where she was alone. The coach didn’t get behind her. “She kept a precise training diary, she communicated very well. We had to analyze her feelings from a distance so that I could train her,” Pernica described during an internet broadcast on the Štrekaři Facebook profile.

The 33-year-old Czech national team member did not let herself be decided by postponing the race by a week and running in the Netherlands instead of in Hamburg. In the race intended only for the elite, she moved in the group and set a steady pace with a reserve below the performance required by World Athletics. She held it to the end and improved her personal maximum by more than three minutes. “It’s unbelievable. Everything came together today, it was a successful race,” rejoiced her coach.

Joglová is another Czech athlete after Tereza Ďurdiaková’s walker, who is waiting for the Olympic race in Sapporo, where the road races moved due to the expected heat in Tokyo.

The world record holder and Olympic champion Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge returned to the winning wave after the autumn failure in London. After the 30th kilometer, he disengaged from the leading trio and won in 2:04:30 with more than a two-minute lead over compatriot Jonathan Korir. The fastest woman was German Katharina Steinrucková (2:25:59). Yogl finished fifth among women.
