These individuals, aged 27 to 99 years of age, are mostly deceased at their home. Among them, some had fever, cough, or both.
The majority of the dead unexplained occurred outside of the hospital during the outbreak of coronavirus are due to pulmonary lesions associated with the virus. This is what revealed a study conducted by members of the medico-legal Institute of Paris, the Sainte-Anne hospital – GHU Paris, of the hospitals of the AP-HP Saint-Louis and Lariboisière, University of Paris, Inserm and the CNRS, to be published Friday, June 12.
Researchers have made scanners on people who died outside the hospital and whose cause of death remained unknown. These individuals, aged 27 to 99 years of age, are mostly deceased at their home. Some had fever, cough, or both. For the majority of them, the doctors suspected an infection in the Covid-19.
The desired elements in the scan were the presence of signs of lung infection suggestive of infection Covid-19, of phlebitis of the lower limbs or pulmonary embolism, proximal head of cardiac arrest. The study noted that, during the peak of the epidemic, the demands of post mortem examinations in medico-legal sudden unexplained death were 14 times more frequent than in the year 2019. The common point between all of these people were to have lost contact with their family or the emergency services 30 minutes to a few hours before the onset of cardiac arrest.
The analysis has therefore been able to demonstrate that the cases of pulmonary embolism, proximal and thrombophlebitis were three times higher during the peak of the epidemic and throughout the year 2019.
The results obtained are, therefore, clear that a sizeable proportion of those victims of sudden death during the epidemic peak, was probably related to pulmonary embolism proximal. These people must therefore be quickly directed to the centres for the treatment of shock, cardiogenic. The study also confirms the essential role of the prevention of intensive thrombosis in patients with an infection Covid-19.
