the Maison de la Sablière opens its doors for Heritage Days

Perched on the heights of Lyon, the Maison de la Sablière is a mansion dating from 1830. A green setting close to the city … its remarkable park is to be discovered on the occasion of heritage days.

The Maison de la Sablière, located in the town of Caluire-et-Cuire, in the heart of the Bissardon district, overlooks the Balmes de Saint-Clair and the Rhône valley. A little-known house and a remarkable park.

Centenary cypress trees, aromatic plants, bamboo, lilac alley... “it is actually an English garden easier to manage as all the varieties are mixed in”, explains Michèle Dehan-Grognot, heiress and representative of the 7th generation of owners.

The first traces of this property date back to the 14th century. Formerly owned by aristocrats, this estate will be owned by rich Lyon silk workers from the 19th century. It was Didier Petit de Meurville who had the current bourgeois house built in the 19th century. He also had the park and the English garden landscaped. From 1849, the house became part of the Chazottier family, silk workers from Lyon who made their fortune in the trade and the making of velvet. She has remained in this family since that date. It is passed on from generation to generation.

In this bourgeois house, the successive owners have left their mark and time seems to stand still, especially in the large living room: “you have Napoleon III furniture, period paintings, family portraits … (a living room) loaded with tapestries, heavy curtains … this property is of historical, landscaped, botanical interest and this is what which makes us want to share it, ” explains Maxime Dehan.

It is from the terrace that the painter Jules Micol took the oldest photographs of the Parc de la Tête d’Or, views of Lyon and the Sablière.
