Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD say, College be the main defendant in contributing corruptor in Indonesia.
Mahfud said 86 percent of corruptors were university graduates. He conveyed this in a public lecture at the University of Semarang (USM), Wednesday (20/10).
“When viewed from the perpetrators of corruption and collusion, universities are the main defendants in the crisis that befell this nation. Especially the corruption crisis in Indonesia,” said Mahfud.
According to him, universities should be at the forefront of realizing agendas for increasing national insight. Campus should not be limited to transferring knowledge.
“[Kampus harus] become a place where students are forged to behave like citizens who understand their own nation,” he said.
Mahfud said that strengthening national insight is not limited to how every citizen has adequate knowledge of the national design which consists of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
According to him, the consolidation of national insight must reach the level of awareness, namely awareness of the reality of the diversity of the nation which is built on four national and state consensus as the support for its existence.
“Good or bad national insight will depend on the level of knowledge and awareness of a citizen himself,” he said.
Even so, Mahfud also revealed, universities also have a big role in bringing change and progress for the country.
“But it must also be remembered that it is the universities that bring progress to this nation. Thanks to college graduates, many innovations have been made in various ways,” he said.
