Reacting to the poor performance of Gabonese cyclists in the 16th edition of the tropical Amissa Bongo, which took place on Thursday January 26, 2023 in its 4th stage (Mouila-Lambaréné), the Director General of the National Office for the Development of Sport and Culture (ONDSC), Joannick Ngomo Obiang proposes a well-structured joint project supported by the various stakeholder entities to put an end to this endless underperformance .

“I went to see them at the start of the competition to encourage them, unfortunately, I don’t think they have the right elements to be able to perform, something that will have to be repaired in the next tropical races. I think that it is in association between the Federation, the Ministry and the Office, that we will be able to help these young people to arrive where they must arrive because they have a lot of heart and a lot of courage”, suggested Mr Ngomo Obiang.

Halfway through the international cycling race, which pits amateur and professional athletes against each other, Gabonese cyclists are lagging behind. They are in the red zone of the general classification. The lack of competitions, poor preparation conditions and the problem of bonuses not yet paid would favor this state of affairs.
