The “Maddie case” remains unsolved

Thirteen years after the disappearance of three-year-old Madeleine McCann in Portugal, investigators are following a hot trail. But there is no clear proof. And the urgently suspect Christian B. has so far been persistent in a cell.

Christian B. remained silent until Saturday. The suspect in the case of the disappearance of the British girl Madeleine “Maddie” McCann, who is three years old in a holiday resort in Praia da Luz in 2007, is currently in prison in Kiel, where he is serving a seven-year prison sentence for serious rape. When Christian B. will break his silence, his two defenders don’t know.

The investigating authorities speak of many indications that the 46-year-old German has been perpetrated, but the chain of evidence has not yet been closed: “It is not enough for an arrest warrant or an indictment,” said the public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig. Nevertheless, the lawyer for the missing Maddie McCann family, Rogerio Alves, considers the trail to Christian B. “encouraging” and a “glimmer of hope”.
