In today’s world, it is hard to imagine life without these fluffy paws.

In order to encourage owners to cuddle their four-legged friends more than once, May 30th marks the International “Hug Your Cat!” day. On this day, you have the opportunity to pamper your pet even more with hugs and, of course, some treats!

Marking “Hug Your Cat!” day, we offer you to get acquainted with the love stories of the world’s most famous cats and their owners!

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fatal Cat

One of the world’s best-known representatives of the feline family is Shupete, the cat of Karl Lagerfeld, the leading designer of the “Chanel” fashion house, who passed away in 2019. Lagerfeld first saw this white Burmese cat in 2011 and immediately fell in love. It should be noted that the fashion designer was not Schuppet’s first owner, he actually confiscated the cat from model Baptista Giabiconi, who had left the pet to be looked after at Lagerfeld’s home.

From then on, Lagerfeld and Schuppet became inseparable. The designer once revealed to journalists that they regularly have meals together and admitted that Shupeta is a rather picky eater. Lagerfeld also said that she does not like to eat on the floor, so the food is put on the table for her. Her favorite dishes were Japanese-style beef, also chicken in jelly with asparagus.

The foreign press estimates that after the death of the owner, Shupete got more than half of Lagerfeld’s 300 million euro inheritance. The cat has two maids, a personal driver and a social media manager. It should be noted that her The Instagram account is followed by 259,000 users.

According to the New York Times, Choupette currently lives in Paris with her nanny, Lagerfeld’s former housekeeper Françoise Cacot. In April 2023, Shupete posed for Vogue magazine with supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Taylor Swift’s cat family

Popular American singer Taylor Swift is a big fan of cats. Three cats live in her home – Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Benjamin Button. The singer named her first Scottish fold-eared cat after the main character of the beloved series “Grey’s Anatomy”. It should be noted that Swift is so passionate about this series, which can be seen on Sundays at 19.00, on the channel “FOX Life”, a fan invited actress Elena Pompeo to star in her video for the song “Bad Blood”.

Meredith the cat is seen in the first minutes of Taylor’s 2019 “ME!” video together with another of the singer’s cats – Olivia Benson.

Olivia, on the other hand, got her name in honor of the main character of the TV series “Law and Order”. She is the third richest pet in the world. It has been found that the capital of this Scottish fold-eared cat reaches 97 million United States (US) dollars! In addition to appearing in Swift’s music videos, Olivia has also appeared in several commercials, such as a 2014 Diet Coke commercial.

In 2019, Taylor adopted another cat named after a character in a popular story. Benjamin Button, unlike his “sisters”, is a Ragdoll (“Ragdoll”), which translates from English as “Rag doll”. He is also often seen on the hostess’s social networks, as well as starred in her video.

Freddie Mercury – with cats until the last breath

The legendary lead singer of the British rock group “Queen” owned at least ten cats during his lifetime. Their names were Dorothy, Tiffany, Tom, Jerry, Delilah, Goliath, Lily, Miko, Oscar and Romeo, the last six of whom outlived their owner, who passed away at the age of 45 on November 24, 1991.

While on tour with the band, Mercury is known to often call home and ask whoever picked up the phone to call their cats. According to the recollections of longtime assistant Peter Freestone, the person who answered the call brought one of all the cats to the phone so the Queen frontman could listen to their meows.

Freddy treated cats like children. They only rarely got regular cat food, but mostly their menu consisted of fresh chicken meat and specially prepared fish for them. And in 1985, Mercury once again proved his love for cats, dedicating his solo album “Mr. Bad Guy” to them.

Although Freddie loved all of his cats, he also had one favorite named Dee Laila. It was she who was with the master in his last moments in this world. In one of his last interviews, Mercury said that he had included longtime girlfriend Mary Austin and his cats in his will.

Anthony Hopkins’ most trusted listener

When the world went through a pandemic and several countries implemented stay-at-home orders, many prominent people shared videos of how they were spending this time. One of the most heartfelt videos of its kind was a mini-concert filmed by Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins for only one live audience – his beloved cat named Niblo.

Hopkins commented at the time that Niblo made sure he remained sane and demanded that his host entertain him in return. Unfortunately, the cat, who was about 15 years old, went to other hunting grounds last year. The actor announced this on the social networking site “TikTok”, dedicating heartfelt farewell words to his friend.

Interestingly, Niblo entered Hopkins’ life quite by accident. The famous actor adopted the Hungarian stray cat while filming in Budapest. Niblo had been left with a hotel doorman, possibly in the hope that he would find a new owner to take care of the animal. Coincidentally, Anthony was staying at the same hotel.

The next day, Hopkins and his wife took the cat into his temporary residence, buying him toys and a king-size bed. At first, the hope was that a responsible owner would show up, but Hopkins and his wife, Stella, liked the cat so much that they decided to take it across the ocean with them to their home in Malibu, California.
