According to a study published in Jama Pediatrics, children and teens are twice as likely to experience symptoms of anxiety and depression during the Covid-19 pandemic as those who experienced them before the pandemic.
Globally, one in four has depression, while one in five faces increased levels of anxiety.
Schools closed and distance learning became commonplace. Opportunities to meet peers or supportive adults outside the home are diminishing. Extracurricular activities and hobbies, all stopped. Not to mention the constantly changing conditions and routine disruptions.
According to clinical child psychologist Jenna Glover, chronic stress can lead to feelings of hopelessness, and it can lead to suicidal thoughts.
