The learning workshop buys 146 kindergartens – E24

The kindergarten fighter got record sales last year. Now it is expanding further to Finland.

The learning workshop Gruppen AS, through a wholly owned subsidiary, on Thursday entered into an agreement to buy the Finnish company Pilke Päiväkodit OY, which operates 146 kindergartens in Finland.

The transaction is expected to be in the box in September.

Pilke has around 2,000 employees and 10,000 children in their day care centers and other services around Finland. The company had revenue of 66.2 million euros last year, which corresponds to NOK 707 million at today’s exchange rate.

The company started its international growth in 2017, and CFO Atle Hørlyk envisions that expansion will continue abroad.

– The learning workshop has growth ambitions in all markets, Hørlyk told E24 in connection with the 2019 result.

Is in Sweden and Germany

The kindergarten group The learning workshop is growing steadily, and in 2019 it had a record turnover of 3.2 billion.

Turnover increased by 16 per cent in 2019, mainly as a result of the acquisition of kindergartens in the last two years.

The learning workshop entered Sweden three years ago and now has 80 kindergartens and private schools there.

Earlier this year, the kindergarten group also expanded to Germany, where they have 13 kindergartens. In the first quarter report, they describe Germany as an exciting market with great growth potential.

– Through international cooperation, we can create a common competence environment, Sundby states.
