The training camp will take place in the ice rink of the Volvo Sports Center and will invite 37 hockey players, including four goalkeepers, 12 guards and 21 strikers.

Coaches will work with the team when the camp starts – Artis Ābols, Edgar Masalsky a Raimonds Vilkoits – as well as a fitness trainer Erik Visockis.

The LHF, together with the coaches, has also included several young players among the national team candidates. This has been done in order to get these players used to the order, rhythm and intensity of the national team training, as well as to be able to improve and develop their skills that will be useful in the future.

As a precaution against Covid-19, the team will be divided into two groups and use three separate changing rooms during the camp, and Covid-19 tests will be performed on everyone twice a week.

The Latvian national team will play the first two test matches on April 9 and 14 against the Latvian U-18 national team, helping it prepare for the upcoming U-18 World Championship in the USA. The U-18 team is currently conducting a training camp in Tukums, and these will be the only tests for the fighting team before going to the USA.

Before the world championship, the Latvian national team will play four more test games. The closest ones will take place on April 20 and 21, when the guests will have to meet with the Slovak national team, and on May 14 and 15 – with Switzerland on their field.

The 2021 World Championships are scheduled for May 21 to June 6. The championship was previously scheduled to start on May 7, but was postponed for a couple of weeks as national championships in Europe could be delayed.

Riga has hosted the World Championships for the only time so far in 2006.
